Rhonda: Hi y'all. We had the VIP treatment for one last time. They let us stay on the ship until 830a and then escorted us to another door where we could skip all of the lines to get off. So we were very happy until we got out of the sight of the concierge waving goodbye and we walked in the cruise terminal to utter chaos. It seemed like we were on the first cruise to ever dock in Barcelona. We all needed our poassport stamped because the cruise was ending. But it was just a mass of people with no definite lines to stand in which led to people pushing ahead and trying to wrangle thier way to a better position one foot ahead. No more VIP for us.
Chris: It was crazy but it actually moved fairly quickly and we talked about even with the chaos it will be a great memory for us to have been a passenger on the very first ship to ever dock in Barcelona Spain ! They honestly did not seem to have ever done this before. But, we did eventually make it thru and out to a line of cabs almost as far as you could see and this time the cab stand people were very good and were ushering people into cabs almost as fast as they could walk up.
Our hotel is on the water and looks out over a marina, just down from the port so we were there quickly. We were really worried that they wouldn't have a room for us yet and we really didn't know what we would do if they didn't. We got to the front desk and the girl said that the room we reserved would not be ready until three PM but they did have another room ready now if we wanted it. We had reserved a pretty nice room and we got the impression that this was not as nice but, whatever, we don't care if it's a cot in the lobby, we will take it. So, we went to the room, stripped off and an hour and twenty minutes after we got off the boat we were settled in for a delicious five hour nap.
Rhonda: I know . I know. YOU would not have wasted 5 hours on a long nap in a day in Barcelona. But hear me out. It saved our lives. We have a deep exhaustion that no one nights sleep will cure . Between us we have aches and pains and colds and etc. we are tired to the bone. And that nap was the best thing we could do for ourselves. When we woke up we went to our favorite restaurant here from 5 years ago . The photos of the paella are framed in our dining room.
It's hard to recreate an experience and we didn't but it was equally as good and for dessert this time we ordered whiskey cake. The waiter made a motion like do you want whip cream all over it? We said sure. Turns out what we agreed to was to pour whiskey all over it. He brought the bottle and had me do it. I just dribbled it but he kept saying no, pour it. So I did. It was an ice cream cake with many layers and coated in nuts and was out of this world.
After dinner they helped us get a taxi and told them to take us around and to the Sagrada Familia.
Chris: Sagrada Familia is a Catholic Church that has literally been under construction for one hundred and forty years, no, that's not a typo or a funny exaggeration. It has been under construction for one hundred and forty years. It was designed by the famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi and they have been determined, for one hundred and forty years, to build it exactly as he designed it. Only problem is, a lot of things he wanted in the design they didn't have the technology to do, so they waited until someone figured it out. We did the tour there five years ago and it is amazing and spectacular and just so strange and well, just weird. There is really no way I can describe this colossal mix of beautiful bizarre and just plain ridiculousit when Professor Google can show you all the pictures and tell you all about it far better than I can. Our first visit there was during the day so we really wanted to see it at night.
It was way cool, the lighting at night is awesome and there were people everywhere and there was religious music, we assume, being played on large speakers all around the Sagrada Familia. We didn't have a clue what was going on but it was awesome to be out in the street in Barcelona, at night, at the Sagrada Familia with a bunch of people. It dawned on Rhonda later that Easter is this coming Sunday so she asked the cab driver if the festivities had something to do with that. He said yes, I figured out that they were probably hiding Easter eggs around the Sagrada. It would be a cool place for an Easter egg hunt.
Rhonda: Oh yes, those fruit bowls on top would be a great Easter basket and there are so many fun hiding places. Sorry, that place is just funny to me. 🤣 But the music and all was very pretty. I was glad to get to see it at night.
That's about it, we have an early morning tomorrow for a tour. It's to see three countries in one day. We will fill you in tomorrow. Night night
Love y'all.
