Milford, Doubtful, and Dusky

Hi y'all.

No, it's not three of the dwarf's ( I know that's what you thought 🤣), it's the Sounds that make up the Fiordland National Park in New Zealand. We spent all day sailing in and around them. We loved our room so much today with the indoor balcony. In essence it's a wall of window that lowers half way. So we had the warmth of the room and didn't have to stand outside to see everything. We had breakfast and lunch room service. And I got my New Zealand ring finally. It was under my pillow this morning!

The Sounds were all completely different:

Milford was cloudy and misty and other worldly .

Doubtful was bright and sunny and lush. A pod of 30 bottle nose dolphins swam by.

Dusty : had more wildlife. We saw seals sunning on a rock and so many waterfalls we lost count.

Look hard, there are probably 40 there.

Chris: Today was just pure magic, such incredible natural beauty. Only one of the three fjords we went thru is accessible by land, the other two you have to be on a boat or in an airplane to see. The commentary on the ship said the small airplane flights you can book often have to turn back because of the winds above the fjords.

We booked what we thought was going to be our New Zealand trip the first time in April 2018. Almost six years ago. Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Dusty Sound, Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland and all the other places we will visit have been a part of our travel plans for all that time but they all seemed to be just out of reach. But not now, we are doing it, we really are doing it.

This is a bit of a wine, whiskey sour buzz hodgepodge so just a few thoughts about today.

As we said, the fjords were just incredible. We saw,

maybe 100, 150, 180, 60, waterfalls ? Who knows, it was just incredible. We sat on our balcony and had room service breakfast and coffee as we went thru Milford Sound then coffee napped then woke up for room service lunch thru Doubtful Sound. Then more naps and chill time leading up to champagne thru Dusky Sound.

It was so beautiful and I will say that we felt a bit guilty invading such a pristine environment on a huge cruise ship but, there are not really any other ways to see it.

Rhonda: We were very impressed by the careful consideration for the environment and also the appreciation by the crew for the opportunity to tour this protected location. We went to the late show and it was the winner of Ireland You have Talent. OMG he was soooo good. We will be in Dunedin tomorrow. 2 tours. One on the water and one on land. So much more then. Love ya.
