Hi y'all.
Today was a great and long day. We were docked from 11a-11pm and we made use of every minute.
At 11a we left for a tour to Hells Gate. It's this weird place about an hour and half from the coast that has these steaming boiling pits of poison. They are naturally occurring.
Chris: There are literally pools of boiling pure sulfuric acid, jump in and you're dead and your skin and organs are eaten off of your bones in minutes. New Zealand is lovely.
Rhonda: and it smelled like sulphur or rotten eggs. So lovely. What the hell did people think when they first walked up and saw this? How many people melted by trying to stick their toes in?
Then it was explained how good the mud was for our skin and will cure anything. OKAY!?!?! But, off we were to cover ourselves in the mud and let it dry like warriors . Then we showered and got into the mineral waters. I don't know if it cured anything but it did reduce the puffiness under my eyes and ankles.
Chris: There were a bunch of college kids 20-25 years ago at a college in Christchurch that found a loophole in the law and figured out that it is not illegal in New Zealand to play rugby nude so once a year they have a necked rugby game. They say the positive attendance rate is way out of proportion to the talent level. I don't know much about rugby but from what I've seen it seems brutal in full American football gear, neked ? I'm a hard pass.
Rhonda: Chris is off topic. I think he just wanted to talk about naked rugby! 🏉 k, did y'all know that kiwi is a made up name? What we know as kiwi fruit is actually Chinese Gooseberry . They weren't having luck selling them so in the early 1900's they remarketed them as New Zealand Kiwi. And they have never looked back in sales. Besides the normal green there are now yellow, and they just started shipping a red one. I can't wait to look for it.
After we got back to the ship it was just overtime in the superbowl . So we headed to the nearest bar and we able to see the Chiefs amazing win!!!
We got ready and went back out to have dinner on the streets. We found a gem of a place.
We had a sampler platter of the appetizers and oh man was it good. That smoked corn was to die for! We had a lovely time back on board. It was 1030ish and we listened to live music and played rummy.
Late to bed, such a lovely day! Love ya!
