Hi everyone!

Rhonda: We had a great flight . It was a long 14 hours but it flew by. We were in premium economy and in the bulk head seats with recliners so we were comfortable. I never even turned on my tv. I had a good book and some internet access for a while . We watched the Cowboy game until

It was 17-3, then we lost the internet. I guess it was a blessing!

The bad side of the day was after we got to Tokyo and came up to the the customs line. It was very very long. We couldn’t even see where the line was headed. It took 2.5 hours to get through and that was with no problems on our part. We landed at 340p and by the time we got into our taxi it was after 6pm and dark outside. Thank god I had the foresight to hire a private car to pick us up or who knows when we would have gotten to the hotel.

We had the strength to get to our room and get room service ordered. We laid across the beds and immediately it started shaking then the whole 45 story building shook. We had an earthquake! It was quite a day.

Chris: Like Rhonda said, the flight was great, I slept on and off and Rhonda watched her iPad and read. It was enjoyable enough. At DFW before we left we spent almost two hours in the Capital One Lounge. We love that lounge, it’s very nice, the food is really good and they have tons of stuff you can take out and on to your flight, candies, cookies sandwiches etc. We always get the cookies for the flight, they are delicious !! We had Bloody Marys then wine and played Rummy Cube. We only play Rummy Cube when we travel and we play at every opportunity we have. We absolutely love it.

When we first got to the lounge I went to the bar and ordered a couple of Bloody Marys and handed a twenty dollar bill to the bartender and said, I’ll be back, remember me, I gotcha he said. The service I got back from that twenty was fantastic. He would see me and actually lean around other people in line to take my order, the wine pours were twice the normal. The guy was great. Very few people tip in the lounges and if they do it’s a buck or two. Rhonda and I have often wondered why anyone would work in food service at an airport. With the parking and security etc why wouldn’t you just get a job at any of a zillion restaurants ? Why would you bartend at an airport lounge where nobody tips ? Whatever, I always tip twenty dollars at the bar and it more than pays for itself.

We left the lounge and got to our gate just as our group was boarding so we timed it perfectly I guess. As we said the flight was more than fine but man, that line at emigration was just an absolute ass kick. Over two hours !! We got off the airplane and were walking and walking and walking and then you couldn’t walk any farther because of a mass of people and then we realized we were in a line. We didn’t even know what we were in line for, we were just lined up in the concourse. Eventually we worked our way far enough to get into a huge room with a line of people that weaved back and forth, over and over for ever. By the time we got out of emigration and on to baggage claim, almost two and a half hours, we were exhausted. I just wanted to sit down in the car, take my shoes off and have a bottle of water. At that moment I think we were as travel tired as we’ve ever been. We have talked before about how we are a little intimidated by this trip, it’s just so far outside of our comfort zone but, that two and a half hour line zapped all of that out of us, the nerves and the excitement were gone, I just wanted to sit down and take my shoes off.

But we recovered to a degree and the drive became more exciting and our hotel is super nice so we are good now. And the earthquake was really cool. Rhonda felt it before I did, we were laying on the bed watching TV and talking and all of a sudden she got a really shocked look on her face, she felt it before I did, I was just about to ask, “what’s wrong with you ?!?!?” Then like she said, the entire building shook, it was crazy. It was actually fun but I do remember thinking, this is fun if it stops now. We were in Christchurch New Zealand in February, Christchurch was basically destroyed by a series of earthquakes a few years ago. We were told on a tour there that the duration of earthquakes is as important as the intensity. I don’t know, but I believe that is what we were told. Point being, it popped into my head tonight and I was thinking, very cool and a great story for our first night in Japan but, that’s enough, and I’ll say the same for this post. We are ready for some sleep. Nite nite

Rhonda: One more thing. Our toilet in our room

Is a super wild adventure. It’s a heated seat, will massage your butt, Blow hot water up there in all directions in all strengths! It looks like a robot and sounds a little like one too. Woooo Hoooooo. I need one of these at home.

Ok for real, nite nite. Love yall.
